Adding information to your model

Once you have a basic model made of functions and flow steps, you can specify what information flows through it.

This includes the information inputs and outputs of each function, and what information flows between functions.

To specify what information is transported by a flow step.

  • Click on the flow step to select it.
  • In the properties panel on the left, specify the Information either by entering a key value of ‘Information’ and a value of whatever your Information is, OR
  • If you’ve already previously used that information in your model somewhere, click the middle Add Information button and choose the Usage and Information type from drop down lists.

To specify what information is input or output by a function.

  • Click on the function to select it.
  • In the properties panel on the left, specify the Information input or output by the function in 1 of 2 ways.
    • Enter a key of ‘Information’ and value of ‘In(<information>)’ or ‘Out(<information>)’, e.g. “In(Customer)” or “Out(Customer)”, OR
    • If you’ve previously used that information in your model somewhere, click the middle Add Information button and choose a Usage and Information type from the drop down lists.

As we do this, AIM will provide visual cues to help you produce a correct model by checking various rules. For example, it’s if you have specified that Customer information is transported across a Flow Step, then the source function must output Customer information.
